    Download Elody (soon!) and set up your profile in just a few minutes.

    Elody searches via Bluetooth for people around you while that section is open.

    Others only see a rough level such as “Sehr nah” (very close), never your location.

    I can’t see anyone nearby

    “In der Nähe” (Nearby) only shows people who are searching there themselves right now.

    1. Open the “In der Nähe” section in the app and tap “In der Nähe aktivieren” (activate Nearby).
    2. Keep the section open: Elody only searches while you have it in front of you.
    3. Give the search 30 to 60 seconds. The search runs on both devices, and both stay open and close to each other.
    4. If it says “Bluetooth ist ausgeschaltet” (Bluetooth is switched off) or “Bluetooth-Zugriff nötig” (Bluetooth access needed), tap the button below it.
    5. If it says “In der Nähe ist aus” (Nearby is off), “StalkShield aktiv” (StalkShield active) or “Sichtbarkeit aus (Sicherheitsmodus)” (visibility off, safety mode), you are deliberately not searching right now. See “How do I become invisible?”.
    • While you search, others can see you too.
    • You don’t see people you have blocked, and they don’t see you.

    How do I become invisible?

    On the radar and in the list of “In der Nähe” (Nearby), others only see you while you are searching yourself.

    • Right nowLeave the “In der Nähe” section or close the app.
    • PermanentlyUnder Einstellungen › In der Nähe › Standard-Modus (Settings › Nearby › Default mode), choose “Nie” (never). If you have set up schedules, the mode of the schedule applies during its time windows: delete them or set them to “Nie” as well.
    • At set timesUnder Einstellungen › In der Nähe › Zeitpläne (schedules), create a time window with the mode “Nie”.
    • At set placesUnder Einstellungen › In der Nähe › StalkShield, create a protection zone, for example around your flat.
    • Visible againIf “In der Nähe” shows the button “Sicherheitsmodus aufheben …” (end safety mode), that is where you turn your visibility back on.
    • Anyone you have already encountered while searching can find you again for up to 30 days under “Kürzlich in der Nähe” (Recently nearby) with the planned Premium. If you block the person, they no longer see you there either.
    • Your entry may still be shown briefly on other people’s devices afterwards.
    • Protection zones only work while the app is open and are not a guarantee.
    • All of this only affects “In der Nähe”, not your profile in Discover.

    Someone is harassing or following me

    In immediate danger in Germany, call 110 (police) or 112 (emergency) straight away.

    Elody is no substitute for the emergency services.

    • “Diese Person verfolgt mich” (this person is following me)Tap this button on the person’s profile from “In der Nähe” (Nearby): Elody turns your visibility off straight away, blocks the person and passes the incident to our team as a priority. Then the app shows you where to get help.
    • BlockOn the same profile, tap “Blockieren” (block). You no longer see each other in Elody, and your chat disappears too.
    • ReportIn a chat via the menu with the three dots or by pressing and holding one of the other person’s messages, as well as in the date view and on a profile from “In der Nähe”: the entry is called “Melden” (report). Our team reviews every report.
    • UnmatchPress and hold the chat in the chat list and choose “Match auflösen” (unmatch). The chat disappears for both of you, for good.
    • In an emergencyUnder Einstellungen › Sicherheit › Im Notfall (Settings › Safety › In an emergency), 110 and 112 are ready to dial. You make the call yourself.
    • “Diese Person verfolgt mich” and “Blockieren” only exist on a profile from “In der Nähe”. No guarantee.
    • A report does not block anyone automatically.

    Lifting a block

    1. Open Einstellungen › Privatsphäre › Blockierte Personen (Settings › Privacy › Blocked people).
    2. Tap “Aufheben” (lift) next to the person and confirm the prompt.
    • You can see each other again afterwards, and an earlier chat may reappear.
    • The list only shows people you have blocked yourself.

    Adding an emergency contact

    1. Open Einstellungen › Sicherheit › Im Notfall (Settings › Safety › In an emergency).
    2. Tap “Notfallkontakt hinzufügen” (add emergency contact) and enter the number.
    • No substitute for the emergency services: you always start calls and text messages yourself.
    • Up to three contacts, stored only on this device.

  • Profile

    Showing a photo to matches only

    1. Open your profile and tap “Bearbeiten” (edit).
    2. New photo: switch on “Nur für Matches sichtbar” (visible to matches only) while cropping.
    3. Existing photo: press and hold it and drag it below the line “NUR FÜR MATCHES” (matches only).
    • At least two photos stay visible to everyone, and at most four are for matches only.

  • Matches & chat

    My match or chat has gone

    There are four possible reasons.

    • ArchivedIn the chat list, tap the filter “Archiviert” (archived). Press and hold the chat there and choose “Aus Archiv holen” (take out of archive). If you see no filter, no chat is archived.
    • UnmatchedIf either of you ends the match, the chat disappears for both of you, without any further notice.
    • BlockedAfter a block you no longer see each other in Elody, and the chat disappears too.
    • Account deletedIf the other person deletes their account, their chats and matches disappear as well.
    • A match that has been ended cannot be restored.
    • The archive is stored only on your device.

  • Account & data

    Deleting your account and exporting your data

    Export your data

    1. Open Einstellungen › Konto › Meine Daten (Settings › Account › My data).
    2. Tap “Meine Daten exportieren” (export my data).
    3. Download the ZIP archive via “Herunterladen” (download): the link is valid for 15 minutes.

    Delete your account

    1. Open Einstellungen › Konto › Meine Daten › Konto löschen (delete account).
    2. To confirm, type the German word “LÖSCHEN” (delete).
    3. Tap “Konto endgültig löschen” (delete account permanently) and confirm.
    • At most one export per day.
    • Deletion is permanent: profile, photos, chats and matches cannot be restored.
    • If an internal review of your account is in progress, the app declines the deletion for the time being.
    • The waiting list on this website is separate from that.

  • Waiting list

    The waiting list confirmation email hasn’t arrived

    1. Check your spam folder. The subject is “Please confirm your sign-up for the Elody waiting list”.
    2. Still nothing? Wait a minute and sign up once more, and we’ll send the email again.
    3. A typo in the address happens quickly: signing up again puts it in front of you once more.
    • The link in the email is valid for 7 days. After that, simply sign up again.
    • You are only on the waiting list once you have clicked the link.
    • If you are already confirmed, no new email is sent.

  • Waiting list

    Unsubscribing from the waiting list

    1. Open an email from the Elody waiting list, for example the confirmation email.
    2. Tap “Unsubscribe” at the very bottom.
    • No email to hand? A short message to hello@getelody.com is enough.
    • After you unsubscribe, we keep your address only with a block marker. On request we delete that entry too.

What is Elody?

Elody is a dating app for real-life encounters: it shows you people who are genuinely near you right now.

Not at the moment. The Elody app is currently only available in German: all screens and texts in the app are in German. This website is also available in English so you can find out about Elody.

Can others see my exact location?

No. Elody detects proximity via Bluetooth, and your exact location isn’t shared in the process. You decide for yourself who you get in touch with.

What data does this website store?

For the waiting list: your email address (used solely to inform you about the launch and the “3 months of Premium free” promotion) plus the related technical data: sign-up and confirmation time, status, list position and the exact wording of your consent. If you submit an idea, your text and email address are added, so we can assign a possible prize to you and ask follow-up questions; if you vote, we also store a shortened, hashed value of your IP address so that nobody can vote more than once. No tracking, no advertising cookies: only strictly necessary cookies for protected areas and your language choice. More in the privacy policy.

Yes, at any time. Every email contains an unsubscribe link, and you can withdraw your consent with effect for the future.
